الاِمتِحانُ / Testing
1ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): إنّ أمرَنا صَعبٌ مُستَصعَبٌ، لا يَحمِلُهُ إلّا عَبدٌ مؤمنٌ امتَحَنَ اللّهُ قَلبَهُ للإيمانِ.
1– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Our command is hard, considerably difficult; no one can bear it save the servant whose heart Allah has tested for faith.’

2ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) ـ في صفةِ الأنبياءِ ^ والأولياءِ ـ: قَدِ اختَبَرهُمُ اللّهُ بالمَخمَصَةِ، وابتَلاهُم بالمَجهَدَةِ، وامتَحَنَهُم بالمَخاوِفِ.
2– Imam Ali (AS), in the description of prophets (AS) and saints, said, ‘Allah has examined them with enemies, and has tried them with struggles, and has tested them with fears.’

الاِمتِحانُ
TESTING
3ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): اُخبُرْ تَقْلِهِ.
3– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Try a man and you will
[come to] hate him.’
[Nahj al-Balagha, Saying 434]
4ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): عِندَ الامتِحانِ يُكرَمُ الرّجُلُ أو يُهانُ .
4– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘During a test is a person elevated or humiliated.’

5ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): يُمتَحَنُ الرّجُلُ بفِعلِهِ لا بِقَولِهِ .
5– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘A man is tested in his actions and not in his sayings.’
[Ghurar al-Hikam, no. 11026]
6ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): ثَلاثٌ يُمتَحَنُ بها عُقولُ الرِّجالِ، هُنَّ: المالُ، والوِلايَةُ، والمُصيبَةُ .
6– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Three things test men’s intellects. They are: wealth, guardianship (wilaya) and calamity.’

7ـ الإمامُ الصّادقُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): خالِطِ النّاسَ تَخبُرْهُم، ومتى تَخبُرْهُم تَقْلِهِم .
7– Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘Socialise with people and test them, and when you test them you will
[come to] hate them.’

8ـ الإمامُ الصّادقُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): اِمتَحِنوا شِيعَتَنا عِندَ ثَلاثٍ: عِندَ مَواقيتِ الصَّلاةِ كيفَ مُحافَظَتُهُم علَيها، وعِندَ أسرارِهِم كيفَ حِفظُهُم لَها عِندَ عَدُوِّنا، وإلى أموالِهِم كيفَ مُواساتُهُم لإخوانِهِم فيها.
8– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Test our followers
[shi`aa] with three things: at times of prayer and how well they observe them, secrets and how they guard them from our enemies, and their wealth and how they aid their brothers with it.’
